Hyperthyroid

  • Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland produces excessive amounts of free thyroid hormones, triiodothyronine (T3) and/or thyroxine (T4). This is the opposite of hypothyroidism. The most common causes for hyperthyroidism are a chronically inflamed thyroid and an autoimmune condition called Graves Disease.
  • The disease affects both sexes, but statistics show that one in eight women between the ages of 35 and 65 and one in five women over the age of 65 have some form of thyroid disease.
    The thyroid gland helps regulate the metabolism. Left untreated, hyperthyroidism can cause serious health complications.

Causes of Hyperthyroidism

A variety of conditions can cause hyperthyroidism. Graves’ disease, an autoimmune disorder, is the most common cause of hyperthyroidism. It causes antibodies to stimulate the thyroid to secrete too much hormone. Graves’ disease occurs more often in women than in men. 
Other causes of hyperthyroidism include:

  • excess iodine, a key ingredient in T4 and T3
  • thyroiditis, or inflammation of the thyroid, which causes T4 and T3 to leak out of the gland
  • tumors of the ovaries or testes
  • benign tumors of the thyroid or pituitary gland
  • large amounts of tetraiodothyronine taken through dietary supplements or medication

  • Exercise Regularly.
  • Add healthy fats like sunflower oil, flaxseeds oil, avocados.
  • Eat cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower etc.
  • Sleep for 7-8 hours.

DON'TS

  • Excess stress.
  • Eating soy products like tofu, temph etc.
